Celilo Falls was the greatest salmon fishery on the Columbia River, one of the greatest fisheries in the world and the hub of commerce for Northwest tribes. Flooded by the construction of a dam in 1957, the Falls have been silenced.

From her first glimpse out the train window at the age of three, Wilma Roberts was fascinated by Celilo Falls. Her fine photographs present an irreplaceable view of this historic spot during the final years of its existence. She has captured the beauty of the place, the people, and their link to one and another in this fascinating pictorial essay.
