The Jan Klippert Memorial Fund

Honor the memory and work of Jan Klippert with a donation to this special beach cleanup fund.
Jan was the founder of the Olympic Coast Cleanup (now part of the Washington Coast Cleanup), an annual volunteer effort to remove marine debris from Washington's northern coast. Plastic water bottles, fishing nets, tires, and countless other ecologically harmful items wash up on Washington's beaches all year and need to be removed. First started in 2000, the event has attracted more and more volunteers each year. In 2007, more than 800 volunteers removed over 23 tons of debris - all thanks to what Jan started.

Jan Klippert, Founder of the Olympic Coast Cleanup, 1935 thru 2008.

Jan's years of hard work have been celebrated by many. Jan won early praise from the Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary and Olympic National Park for helping to protect delicate coastal ecosystems and for providing an opportunity for people to connect to the beauty and wildness of the coast itself. In 2005, Sierra Club Magazine celebrated Jan's accomplishments in a feature article. In 2007, Volvo selected Jan as a semi-finalist in its prestigious Volvo for Life Awards program to recognize outstanding volunteer efforts across the country. Jan also served on the board of Washington Trails Association and was a frequent contributor to their popular publication, Washington Trails Magazine.

With the approval of Jan's wife, Sharon, and son and daughter, Brian and Heidi, we have dedicated this fund to cleaning up the most remote beaches of Olympic National Park. Your contributions will be used to support volunteer and marine debris cleanup efforts along the wilderness coast, including some of Jans favorite locations, such as the Norwegian and Chilean Memorials, Yellow Banks, and Toleak.
